How to open a bank account with Monese
Monese is a British financial company that helps to make the lives of its customers easier by offering current accounts to them.
Not only does this company offer current accounts; but it also offers money transfer services.
With Monese, you can also get your salary paid to your account quickly and easily. It basically serves as an alternative to traditional banks.
To open an account with Monese, you have to reside in the European Economic Area (EEA).
Its operations are within the 30 countries that belong to the EEA. It is fast and easy to open a Monese account, as you do not need some of the lengthy processes that some financial companies ask for.
Things like proof of address, credit checks, and phone calls, wouldn't be asked of you as you open a Monese bank account.
You also can open your Monese account in a few minutes from the comfort of your home. You do not have to visit one of the branches.
Things you need to open a Monese bank account.
The requirements to open a Monese account are very few. You only need:
- An email address:
You need an active email address that you have access to. Getting an email is not a difficult thing.
If you already have one, simply put the email address when you are asked for it as you open your Monese bank account.
However, if you don't already have one, don't be worried. You can sign up for either a Gmail or a Yahoo Mail account. It is free to have any of these accounts, and they take only a few minutes to open.
- A phone number:
Another thing you need is an active phone number that you currently use. This is important, as it is also a way to reach you when things like codes need to be sent to you. A phone number is also a way of identifying you as the owner of the account.
- An ID Document:
You need to submit a government-recognized identity document to prove that it is you. The system takes your submission, and if it passes this check, you are good to go.
- Be resident in any EEA country:
You cannot get a Monese account if you don't live in any of the 30 EEA countries.
These countries include Denmark, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Estonia, Luxembourg, and 19 other countries. See the full list here. Also, you can only send money to countries in the EEA.

- Download the Monese app: The first step is to download the app from your app store. After downloading and opening the app, you'll be taken to a screen that has ‘Log in’ and ‘Get Started’ buttons. Click the ‘Get Started’ button since you don't have an account already.
- Input details: The app will ask to use your location. Click on ‘Allow While Using App'. After this, you want to fill in your email, and invite code (if you got invited by someone. This is an optional section, though).
- Read and understand terms & conditions: The terms and conditions will be shown to you. Do not be in a haste to sign up without reading and understanding them first. After doing this, click on ‘Get Started'.
- Create and confirm passcode: After you click on ‘Get Started’, you will be taken to a page that asks you to create a passcode. Create a passcode that you can remember. The next page it shows is for you to confirm the passcode. Input the same passcode you created, to confirm that it's the passcode you want to use.
- Confirm your email: It brings up a page for you to confirm your email. Allow it to, and then open your email to find it. Click on ‘Confirm my Email’. Then click on ‘Open Monese App' and it brings you back to the Monese app.
- Enter and verify phone number: Enter your active phone number and wait for Monese to send you a verification code. It takes about a second or two to get this code. Input the code and your number is verified.
- Add address: You can either manually add your address or use your map. After this, confirm your address with the prompt that comes up.
- Choose account: You'll be asked if you want a GBP, a EUR account, or a RON account. Choose whichever one you want.
- Confirm your ID: You need to confirm your identity by presenting a government-issued/recognized ID such as your Passport, Driver's License, or Resident Permit Card. These options will be shown to you, and you only have to select one. Take a picture of the document and upload it. It'll also ask for a picture of your face. Be sure to take a clear picture.
- Answer questions: You'll be asked a few questions about your finances and what you plan to use the account for. The questions are neither stressful nor uncomfortable. Just go ahead and click the options that describe you.
- Choose a plan: You can choose either the premium, classic, or starter plans. Since it's a new account and you're just starting, it'll be best if you go with the Starter plan. You can always upgrade later. You can also create a virtual card after choosing the Starter plan.
Follow these 11 easy steps above to create your Monese account. Remember that you have to reside in one of the EEA countries before you can use this account. If you want to send money, your recipient also has to reside in an EEA country.
Aside from that, other requirements are really easy. This makes getting a Monese account straightforward.
Also, bear in mind that you may need to wait a few minutes between a few of the steps for the system to load. Get started by downloading the mobile app.
Since Monese is limited to just countries in the EEA, we recommend the OhentPay app for you to transfer money across borders. OhentPay operates in over 190 countries, and is very fast and reliable.
